8-22-24 THOUGHTS
We read the passage area below last evening in our class. There are many many things in this world that we should flee from! We must make room in our hearts for Jesus so that we can “fight the good fight of faith and take hold of eternal life.” Paul is settling in on "the important" here. He desires focus and then the application of fighting. 1Cor 9:26 “Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;” The pursuit in verse 11 is to be powerful and purposeful in our lives. The words in the latter part of verse 15 ought to stimulate a great reverence in us... “He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,”! Our eternity is IN THESE HANDS!
1Tim 6:11-16 But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which He will bring about at the proper time — He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.
My Prayer:
We give our praise and thanksgiving to the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Keep our hearts wholly fixed on You, O God! Teach us to pursue and to flee and fight. Absorb our lives with Your Kingdom. Some day, O Lord, may we know the meaning of “unapproachable light”. You are an awesome God. May we live, and move, and have our being in Your Glorious Presence. Accept our love and living sacrifice.
In the name of Jesus who saves us, Amen
